Soon you will receive a brand-new bulletin from Protectors. In it you will find a recap of our in-depth reports by Natural Resource Group staffers Desiree Powell and Neha Savant and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's John Butler.
We cover the Bloodroot Valley serpentine barrens restoration site; the efforts to secure the habitats that sustain our native amphibian species; and the ground-breaking work to investigate the secretive lives of our newly discovered species, the Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog.
The winter bulletin is also our official kickoff of our 50th anniversary year! Many decades ago a group of concerned environmentally minded citizens knew that forming an organization dedicated to protecting Staten Island's natural open spaces was the best way to achieve the protection of our natural resources.
Join with us as we commemorate this milestone with special yearlong walks, talks, a crowd-sourcing fundraising campaign, ending with a fun and celebratory capstone party event.
Protectors of Pine Oak Woods will be around for a long time to come, but we pause during this special year to celebrate this incredible milestone, recalling the work of our dedicated founders, board members, and especially you, our devoted membership.
