Forest Restoration Workshop (#251) @ High Rock Park
Aug 12 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

NOTE: this is not a “3rd Saturday” restoration. Meet in the Nevada Avenue parking lot of High Rock (200 Nevada Avenue). We will follow the trail beside the Moravian Cemetery where we will try to uproot some of the many alien Devil’s Walking Sticks that have sprung up in the fallen trees along the fence line. We will also uproot or cut Multi-flora Rose and other unwanted plants that we find along the way. Should the fence line be too difficult, we’ll continue to Pumphouse Pond to clean up what has sprouted new since out last visit. If you don’t have your own, Protectors will supply gloves and pruners (& refreshments). After a two hour work session (our 251th monthly workshop), we will take a short walk over nearby trails. For more information call Don Recklies at (718) 768-9036 or Chuck Perry at (718) 667-1393. (Service credit is available.)

Forest Restoration Workshop (#252) @ Lemon Creek Fishing Pier
Sep 16 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Staten Island Beach Cleanup at Sharrott & Mt. Loretto Beaches. Join Protectors and the Natural Resources Protective Association in the NYC fishing pier parking lot opposite the intersection of Hylan Blvd. and Sharrott Avenue to take part in the International Coastal Cleanup. We will collect, separate, and record trash from the beach (and enjoy the Raritan Bay!). Data from this annual clean-up is used by the International Coastal Conservancy to monitor the cleanliness of our beaches and the health of our shoreline waters. Protectors will provide gloves, bags and refreshments. This will be the 252nd Restoration and the 14th consecutive year that we have participated in removing hundreds of pounds of trash from our beach! For more information call Don Recklies at (718) 768-9036 or Chuck Perry at (718) 667-1393. (Service credit is available.)
